Dan cut his teeth as musician before developing a passion for theatre through sound design and composition.
A domino of decisions has led him here. He produced classical music events in iconic Manchester pubs (Night & Day Cafe), which he took him to Edinburgh Fringe where he did his first sound design gig (The Marriage of Kim K) for leo&hyde, which led to a composition and writing collaboration on a new musical (Galileo: an a cappella musical).
Alongside this, he worked as a klezmer musician, which led him to becoming a klezmer tutor and honorary research fellow at the University of Manchester, which led him to co-founding a CIC for intercultural music, which led him to co-producing and writing a play (Gideon: a play with music).

Dan has also worked as a writer. If he had a penny for every show he’d been involved in writing that follows a life of an eponymous, hubristic, tragic ‘genius’ figure with a name beginning with ‘G’ he would only have two pennies (but it’s a weird statistical anomaly, right?). Gideon is a play with music about the life of lesser-known Czech-Jewish composer Gideon Klein. Galileo is an a cappella musical about the famous scientist Galileo Galilei, being co-written by Dan and Leo Mercer, two songs from which have reached the final of the Stiles and Drewe Song Prize, one of which won the Voice, Vision and Potential Award.
