RUBY JOY

voiceover reel

Ruby wanted a reel for voice acting / voiceover work, but didn’t know where to start. She wanted a service where she was guided through the process from beginning to end. JJ had an initial consultation with her, listening to her voice and getting her input, and made suggestions as to where her voice might be best placed for VO.

JJ instantly that Ruby would suit Regency-era audio book narration and romantic poerty, so JJ curated excerpts from Pride & Prejudice (Jane Austen) and ‘It was not death’ by Emily Dickinson. Ruby also had great range between bright/friendly and sultry so JJ wrote two bespoke advertisements for her: a travel ad and a perfume ad.

Ruby also was interested in some character voices for animation and also wanted to showcase non-native accents. We created a bespoke longer form scene to showcase a variety of tones and emotions for the medium.

Voiceover Reel

(inc. animation)

For this reel, Dan engineered the recording in the room with Ruby in a hired studio, while JJ directed her via conference call.

Recording

The recording session was 2 hours long, to give ample time to try variations.

Ruby was sent the proofs of mixes to check over before the reel was mastered. No edits!

Dan & JJ worked together to find the right vibe for the sound design and music for the reel, with the ads using ethically sourced and meticulously selected/edited stock music, and the poetry having bespoke music written by Dan. The music for the cartoon animation was scored specfically for this scene as stock music doesn’t cut the medium!

post-production

“The boys at House Header were extremely welcoming and professional. The environment they created was supportive and the product they created for me was of such a high quality. I would highly recommend House Header to any industry professionals looking to create a VoiceOver reel”

Samuel cunningham

Game audio Reel

(sound / music only)

Samuel came to us as a voice actor having recorded a voiceover reel before in his home studio setup. He came to us as he wanted to branch out into game audio with a specific set of character voices and accents he wanted to showcase. For Samuel, he had a home setup so wanted to record there and send us his recordings in his own time.

Game Audio requires bespoke content so all his scenes were written by JJ based on the characters Samuel wanted to show. Certain voices lended themselves more to a fantasy world, and others to a combat game. JJ suggested some options for additional voice timbres/accents for the scene that Samuel could explore.

Game audio Reel

Samuel recorded at home and sent over the recordings to us. After initial design mockups with some text editing, there was a bit of back and forth with Samuel and we all wanted to update takes so they matched the flow of the scene as we didn’t have optimum takes from his initial session.

Recording / POst

The music for the fantasy game was composed by Dan, with ethically sourced and selected/edited stock music chosen for the fighting game. The spy game is a combination of stock assets and specially composed music.

Once Samuel was happy with his game audio reel, he asked if we could heighten his existing voiceover reel by using sound design and music. He also added extra adverts to showcase the range of products his voice would be suited for. For this we did none of the writing or recording, but gave an immersive dimension to his existing material
